Cultural exchange for dialogue and peace

A delegation from the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute, led by chairman and co-founder Vladimir Yakunin, together with a delegation from the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation led by Vice Executive Chairman Hang Yuanxiang, travelled to Saint Petersburg to develop cultural ties between Russia and China.
New tools for the study of cultural heritage
On December 4, at the invitation of Professor Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the Hermitage Museum, the joint DOC Research Institute and China Soong Ching Ling Foundation delegation visited the museum and discusses the of museums in the protection and preservation of cultural values.
The Hermitage possesses a collection of more than three million works of world cultural heritage, including paintings, sculptures, archaeological findings, and numismatic material.
Speaking about different means of cooperation, Professor Piotrovsky stressed that the Hermitage offers not only exhibitions in Saint Petersburg, but today the museum is a multifunctional research centre that provides a wide range of opportunities to explore, study and preserve the cultural heritage of different civilisations and cultures. Among the tools employed by the museum are virtual reality tours and online access to archived collections of artefacts and paintings. The museum’s researchers also offer masterclasses and lectures on art and restoration at various locations around the world.
Saint Petersburg and the Belt and Road Initiative
The Chinese Belt and Road Initiative could offer significant cooperative opportunities for the many nations, cultures, and civilisations of Eurasia. The initiative is said by some to represent a new model of foreign relations based on the spirit of the ancient Silk Road.
