Special report on One Belt One Road and Chinas role in globalisation published

The Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute recently published a special report on why China’s approach to globalisation is different, and how this different conceptualisation could benefit humanity.
Professor Peimin Ni explores Confucian and Daoist traditions in order to shed light on China’s One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative. Explaining the concepts of ‘the community of common destiny’ and ‘co-prosperity through collaboration’, he reflects on the possible change from a unipolar order shaped by US hegemony to a multipolar order influenced by the Confucian principle of ‘all under heaven’. Ni argues that OBOR’s potential could be lost if the rest of the world treats China’s rise with a Cold War mentality – as a threat – and warns that excessive scepticism could mean a missed opportunity for the whole of humanity.
Peimin Ni earned a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Connecticut. He also holds an MA and BA from Fudan University. His main interests are Chinese and comparative philosophy, modern European philosophy, and philosophy of causation. Ni is a founder and former President (1997-1999) of the Association of Chinese Philosophers in America (ACPA). He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the ACPA book series, “Chinese and Comparative Philosophy” and as President of the Society of Asian and Comparative Philosophy (SACP). Ni is the founder and the Director of GVSU’s faculty-led study abroad program ‘Summer School in China’ and the winner of numerous academic awards. He served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Hawaii and the University of Hong Kong.
