Newly appointed Guinean Prime Minister speaks at Rhodes Forum 2018

Ibrahima Kassory Fofana, Guinean Prime Minister, will speak at the Rhodes Forum during the Summit on Africa.

Economist by training, Prime Minister Fofana has previously held top government positions, including Minister of Economy and Finance, before being appointed Prime Minister. He was one of 24 candidates in the 2010 presidential election, running under the Party of Guinea for All (GPT) which he founded.

The Summit on Africa will focus on the African Union’s vision of an “integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in global arena”, which is far from being realised. The success of this vision is nevertheless in the interest of the entire world, because Africa’s problems are not only regional issues. Threats from terrorism organisations are present across the continent, and beyond. Thus, the international community is working with African countries as they face the challenges of security and development. It is vital that African societies are represented as a critical facet of the ‘Global South’ at the international level. The aim of the summit is to identify the priorities of African countries and issues that are holding them back.

Among the speakers at this year’s Rhodes Forum are Ibrahima Kassory Fofana, Sébastien Crozier, Hang Yuanxiang, Jean-Yves Ollivier, Achille Mbembe, Mikhail Bogdanov, Samia Nkrumah, Dioncounda Traoré and Dimitris Avramopoulos. The session will be moderated by Zyad Limam.
