

Prof. Vladimir Popov, Research Director at the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute (DOC) participated in the 10th Forum of Economists, organised by the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Forum was, attended by a large number of Uzbek officials, among them the Minister of Economy of Uzbekistan Botir Xoʻjayev, who opened proceedings with the presentation about current economic reforms in Uzbekistan. Vladimir Popov made a presentation at the opening panel along with Kiyoshi Taniguchi, senior economist of the Asian Development Bank, and Prof. Bakhodir Khodiyev, Rector of the Tashkent State Economic University. He argued that in the case of post war economic miracles –were all based on the export of manufactured goods, not on export of resources, services or agricultural products. The question is whether Central Asia and Uzbekistan in particular will follow the traditional pattern or will adopt a new model of catch up growth.
